Philip Norton is a self-confessed text-fusion artist, combining poetry with music, performance, visual and digital art. He performed as a living exhibit as part of the Punkulture exhibition at the Australian Museum, and has had work commissioned by the National Gallery of Victoria. His performances have won him both the Sydney Writer’s Festival and the Glebe Books Poetry Cups.

In 2006, Norton won the prestigious Newcastle Poetry Prize, Ausutralia’s richest, for his New Media Poem Hypnosis.

In 2005, he was awarded the Vanguard LiterARTure Prize for his digital print poetry series The Holy Book Triptych, which was acquired by the Monash Museum of Art.

In 2004, his spoken word poetry was picked up by dance music duo Sonicanimation for two tracks on their Defective Perspective album, including the Triple J hit This is Not a Love Poem.

Philip was the Radio National science poet for National Science Week 2005, and produced a series of radio-poems based on his highly acclaimed collection Teach Yourself Atomic Physics (www.combustiblebooks.com) .

In July 2007, Philip will be the first poet to appear on the ABC Television program Spics and Specs, performing with the renowned Jazz pianist Paul Grabowski.

As a freelance producer, he has produced programs for Radio National Poetica, Radio Eye, and Airplay. Norton tours his performances and workshops to secondary schools, writers’ groups and museums promoting his hybrid approach to writing and art, and his sharing his techniques for lateral-learning. spec@dustspec.com
